How to Type Urdu with Noori Nastaleeq Font in Microsoft Word 2007 or later

If you’re looking to type Urdu in your operating system then it’s not really a hard job to do. Since people are using Urdu Inpage to type all Urdu stuff but now it's becoming easy to type in Urdu using Noori Nastaleeq font in any of Microsoft Office suite programs and even in Microsoft Word.

 

At First, you need to activate Urdu typing feature then we can able to type Urdu anywhere in Windows. Whether you’re renaming your folders, or write document in Microsoft Word 2003/2007/2010, or doing Facebook chat in Urdu, everywhere from desktop to website online you’ll be able to write Urdu.

 

1. To activate Urdu type feature please check out this tutorial on how to activating Urdu Language in Windows 7 and for Windows XP.

 

 

After you’ve successfully activated Urdu language feature in your windows environment now you’ll see that whenever you try to type Urdu you’ll get Arabic Character style fonts. Now you probably thinking on getting similar font-type results as you had in Inpage Urdu. No worries, because every solution is available for you. There is a font called ‘Jameel Noori Nastaleeq’ that can easily help you to type in Urdu pretty similar font style as you see while typing Urdu in Inpage. You can get this Urdu font easily and you can install it into your computer to achieve the exactly same results.

 

2. You can download ‘Noori Nastaleeq’ font from link below:

3. To install this font all you need is to first extract this zip file by right-clicking and select ‘Extract Here' if you’ve installed WinRAR compression utility very useful if you don’t have this please download it here. However, there is a built-in Windows 7 feature allows you to extract zip file without installing any compression utility, you can use if you don’t want to install any additional utility.

 

Finally, You Just need to copy the extracted font files to your Windows’s ‘Font’ folder. You can go to this folder by:

4. Clicking Start Menu > Type ‘Run’ and press ‘Enter’ key and then Run command window will open.

5. Next You just need to ‘Fonts’ inside text-box of Run command window.

6. Now paste the font files to ‘Fonts’ folder

 

Close all the programs and then re-open to use this font. Let’s enjoy typing in our native language Urdu and get the experience of professional Urdu typing by using Noori Nastaleeq font in Microsoft Word.

    1. Maybe there is a problem with line spacing. Set your line spacing from 1 per line to 1.5 per line and let see if the problem be solved.

    1. Please open on-screen keyboard to see the keys to print 'zair', 'zabar', 'pesh', and etc. Follow steps below to open onscreen keyboard. Also be sure to press Alt+Shift, in case you're in English typing mode:

      1) Press Windows Key + R
      2) Type 'osk'


      Now you can to see the keys for every Urdu/Arabic alphabets, even 'zair', 'zabar', and 'paish'. Try pressing shift as well to see more Urdu characters you can type.

      بھائی صاحب میں نے آپ کی ہدایت کے مطابق آن سکرین کی بورڈ استعمال کیا۔ مگر اردو کے بورڈ میں اعراب یعنی زیر زبر پیش وغیرہ نہیں ہیں۔ میں نے شفٹ کی بھی بار بار استعمال کی ، مگر اردو کی بورڈ میں کہیں بھی اعراب نہیں ہیں۔
      ہاں یہ ضرور ہے کہ عربی زبان کے کے کی بورڈ میں یہ سب اعراب ملتے ہیں مگر وہاں اردو کے تمام حروف تہجی نہیں ہوتے۔ اور پھر اردو میں ٹائپ کرتے ہوئے عربی کی بورڈ سے بھلا اعراب کیسے لگانا ممکن ہو گا۔ یہاں فائل منسلک نہیں کی جاسکتی ورنہ میں سکرین امیج میں آپ کو دیکھاتا کہ واقعی اعراب نہیں ہیں۔

    3. I have just rechecked again using 'osk' or on-screen keyboard windows and I can see zair, zabar, paish, on other aarabs. On on-screen keyboard just watch out for circles in the keys they are actually pointing out about aarabs in the keyboard and you'll easily use them just as you've used in Inpage.

    1. In the post above link is shared for the Noori Nastaaliq font for Microsoft Word. Please download and copy it to your Windows' 'Fonts' folder and then re-open Microsoft Word you'll able to type in Urdu, when you press 'Alt+Shift' (To shift from Urdu/English typing).

    1. In the post, you've have to download the Noori Nastaaliq font, in order to type with this font in Microsoft word. After downloading, just copy this font to your windows' 'Fonts' folder then you'll be ready to use in Microsoft Word by just pressing 'Alt+Shift' key.

  14. مجھے جمیل نوری نستعلیق فونٹ اچھا لگتا ہے اور میں اِس کو اکثر ورڈ میں استعمال بھی کرتا ہوں لیکن مشکل یہ ہے کہ الفاظ آپس میں بہت قریب قریب ہوتے ہیں... مثلاً :
    ’’ذرا اچھا سا جوڑا دکھائیں‘‘
    یہ جمیل نوری نستعلیق میں ایسے جُڑ جائے گا:
    ’’ذرااچھاسا جوڑادکھائیں’’
    ریگولر اردو پڑھنے والوں کو اتنا مشکل نہیں لگتا لیکن پھر بھی یہ ایک سُقم ہے۔ اگر یہ کوئی سیٹنگ کا مسئلہ ہے یا بعد میں آنے والے ورژن میں یہ خامی دور کر دی گئی ہے تو براہِ مہربانی مجھے بتائیے

    1. Yes, Inpage Urdu is still best in doing such thing but using this font casual user can get benefit out of it. Still many newspapers work in Inpage for their Urdu newspapers.

    1. I am sure if you followed above you'll able to type in Microsoft Office 2010 as well. It is just a matter of pressing Alt+Shift and you'll easily able to switch from Urdu and English typing in seconds.

    1. While typing Urdu you can't able just as space bar adds space in English. I think space-bar keys is working but you're not noticing it is just my thought. Please tell if you any further information about it.

    1. I think Inpage would be best if you're more familiar with their tools. However, MS Word is commonly used among people. Incase you've not ever used Inpage I think you should prefer using Microsoft Word with Urdu language installed + Phonetic keyboard layout and you'll be good to go to compose your Urdu afsana.
